Blog Awards. And Elsewhere.
I just realized that I don’t have anything to wear on The 2007 Philippine Blog Awards later this evening. Why can’t I just be in jeans, or shorts, or something I can be comfortable in? I don’t even know how to wear sandals. Heck, I don’t even own footwear other than my trusty slippers (which I always wear wherever I go), and my pair of red chucks. Oops, I have a pair of black, closed, heeled shoes. Uh-oh. I’d probably stumble every now and then while doing my usherette duties. I have no one to go with me although I’m entitled to tag along one guest. Doesn’t have to be a blogger. Hmmm…Anyone?
And because I can’t think of anything to blog about except that Kat of Feelgood.com.ph has offered 20% discount on OhMiBod (you know, the music-powered vibrator) for all the lovely ladies in my blog site (and I’m seriously considering it
), I’m quoting-slash-plugging the following people because their entries are worth mentioning. So let’s get naked, yo!
———
Marocharim has always been one of my most favorite bloggers. In one of his recent entries, The Pink Elephant in the Philippines That Nobody Wants to Talk About, he hit the nail — and very hard, I must say — on a lot of issues concerning the Philippine government and the Reds.
Do I think that the character of Philippine society today is based on injustice and inequality? Yes. Do I think capitalism, imperialism and feudalism is to blame? Of course. Do I think that the Philippines is a semi-colonial, semi-feudal society? Absolutely.
Do I think that armed revolution is the proper course of action? Definitely not.
And do I agree? Absolutely. What the others cannot seem to get is this one simple fact: “as much as I don’t agree with the government, I don’t agree with the Reds either.” I used to be a leftist extremist, until I realized that both sides have their own wrongs. Yes, I know I’m more vocal on my disgust for the government, but heck, it is its duty to care for and serve the Filipino people. Responsibility. So you really can’t blame me.

The Jester-in-Exile has made a simple guideline to choosing what party-list to vote for in the upcoming elections. If you’re a confused first-time voter, it’s definitely a worthwhile and enlightening read. But then, not many people are very familiar with the party-list system in the country.
Oh well. I especially like the following:
3. Do NOT vote for fan clubs. [...] Why? Simple. Firstly, who are the marginalized groups these people represent? Second, what legislative agenda do these people have… rename EDSA to be Apo Avenue or FPJ Avenue?
[...]
8. Vote for party-list organizations whose representatives you personally know to be people who will represent the interests you are voting them for. I suspect that Shari will vote for Kabataan, my dad’s acquaintances in the small-scale mining industry will probably support party-list organization Minero, I suppose that persons with disabilities and their families will perhaps support Alyansa ng May Kapasanang Pinoy (AKAPIN), and so on. No point in voting for party-list organizations who campaign in your area but whose advocacies do not involve or support yours.
Right, right. I’d vote for Kabataan! Only I’m not a registered voter.
Oh, and The Jester-in-Exile has also found a very informative site called The Pinoyvote 2007. Go get your huge asses there.

Jorge Cosgayon really hates Raul Gonzales. I can tell.
And yes, kids do say the darndest things, as reflected by a GMANews.tv article a couple of days ago.
- “Political ads never really work. The Filipino people already know who they will vote for. The politicians just waste their time and money on putting their faces all over the Philippines. They can just use the money to start projects that we can benefit from. The ads on TV never say how they will help make the country better. They should think about what they say and keep their promises.” - Bianca
Precious!

And here’s a great laugh. JJ’s snarky bits directed to Prospero Peachy — oops, I mean Prospero Pichay — really had me snorting for a minute.
Thea Alberto: Something light sir. What do you feel when people call you pechay, or you know, the vegetable?
Prospero Peachy: Well, I love it. That means that my awareness has gone up. So every time they call me pichay, it’s music to my ears.
Thea Alberto: Okay, so we’ll call you Pechay? [laughs]
Unsent: Thea 1. Peachy 0. rofl

Yuga blogged about the ridiculously expensive dot.PH domains (which is one of the reasons why I’m so disheartened on our Philippine-based web standards project). So Joel Disini responds to the dot.PH pricing issue, finally, and judging from the responses of the readers, they are not happy and contented with the vagueness of his answer.
Mr. Disini, not all of the people in the Philippines who want a dot.PH domain are SEO experts. Not everyone in the Philippine blogosphere are into money-making schemes. You seem to be forgetting about us [personal] bloggers who also want to avail of dot.PH domains. Well, uhm, nothing really. Just showing you the glaring black hole in your statement. And just thought you should know that we ordinary people exist too.
Sighs. If only The J Spotter’s offer of a free dot.PH domain was still available, I’d grab [lunge for] it — for both the planned webstandards.org.ph and my own name for a domain name (sharicruz.com.ph, because sharicruz.com has already been taken
).
Whoops! Holy guacamole! I haven’t had my PBA ticket printed yet! Rock on, everyone! And those who will be going to the blog awards night, see yah later!
oddly, jester left out the groups that are
allegedlyaligned with the left/opposition. heheHave fun at the awards ceremony! Hope you found something to wear! I hate dressing up for stuff like that!
di you wear nalang what you want. what’ll they do, boot you out of there because you’re not wearing the right clothes? camon.
anyhoo, hope you’ll have fun at the awards
when you buy a domain, how often do you make payments? not like i’m thinking of getting one. walang funds. just curious.
Anyways, I still don’t know if I’m gonna come to the awards dressed as a clown. i still don’t have anything to wear.
Hope to see you soon! Sana mag-enjoy tayo mamyang gabi!
hello shari
first time I’ve been here, and I love it!
Hi Shari! I just want to thank you for the birthday greetings. I’m really grateful for your kind and sweet thoughts. It’s a pleasure knowing you.
I hope you’ll settle on something comfortable to wear and pretty at the same time. A wonderful smile and positive attitude always makes you appear good whatever you choose to wear.
Take care!
busy nga eh… hehe… lasing pa rin nga ako hanggang ngayun, isa pa di ko kasama si manok kasi nasa probinsya at di ko alam yung lugar, at huli na ang lahat…
shirt, jeans, chucks ka na lang…
I hate dressing for formal occasions so good luck!
Anyways, I think that the government has its own mistakes but they try their best to do their job like Anti-Poverty programs and the such and the price is a little from the pork barrel. Though, I disagree with the ads thingy. It can help if you’re not that popular. In the case of Noli de Castro, he doesn’t need those anymore since he’s dang popular. Even his fellow ABS CBN stars are campaigning for him on their shows.
I don’t have much to say about politics, so lets shift the topic to Philippine domain names. I really don’t know why they [or at least the respondent to Yuga's statement] think only big companies, and SEO experts and professionals like those .ph domain names—of course they could pay for them expensive domains. Can’t they give at least .org.ph some discount? Of course they would screen prospective buyers whether they are real non-profit organizations—at least they wouldn’t be harming their pockets when all they do is for good causes.
I should mentor you or something lolz. I can run in stilettos
I’m still pissed about the what happened to the lgbt candidates and party list.
And those dotPH domains are so fuckin expensive.
(there’s another Shari Cruz?? lolz)
Anyway, Enjoy!
grabe, huli na ko sa balita shari!! congrats sa phil blog awards! i’m so proud of you and you definitely deserve it
i’ll be rooting for youuuuu
kainggit. at least you got a ticket. i wanted one for the sake of having one but i guess they didn’t want to give me a ticket.
hey benj, i think i did mention them elsewhere.
then again, you may be right.. could they be fronts?
thanks for the mention, shari. you can’t vote? gaaah!
I cannot attend the awards night due to insufficient funds. (ie, transportation expenses, recreational expenses and all). Poverty assault. Huhuhu.
I should have not submitted my name on the ticket reservations…
how do you get your political opinions?? I’m so dumb with politics I’m beginning to think something’s wrong with me.o_0
Good luck on the blog awards! make a statement! Wear bikinis! Hahaha
You should take a picture of yourself in whatever you’re going to wear at the awards night. Lol. (: Good luck, dude.
Good Luck. Tama si Tobey, make a stament, wear bikinis or nothing.
Congratulations.
I saw the news at @play Congratulations!
Shari! Congratulations!
Hi Shari, and thanks for commenting on my blog;-)
I am wishing you good luck for the awards, you will make it I am sure.
My tip: Why not look for some nice flat black sandals with some glamour deco on them? I highly ecommend flat sandals, because otherwise you hurting feet will destroy the evening.
Yay Shari! Congratulations for winning in the Philippine Blog Awards.
Wow. I don’t think the US has a blog award.
I’d just wear jeans.
Some domain resellers are pretty expensive. Gah. The thought of some places charging like, $20+ for a .org, .net, .info, or a .com just drives me crazy.
shari!
its really nice meeting you. ang congrats you really deserve it. akin na lang yng Krispy Kreme!! aahaha
sayang di mo nabasa ang speech mo.
What’s with the uncanny obsession for vibrators? Do you actually even own one? We want the truth!
Whoa! Who the hell are these people? Ok might as well check ‘em out. But damn, they’re too political. Just ain’t my cup of tea.
You won! YOU WON! Congratulations!
“Not deserving” pala, ha! LOLOLOL

Hi Shari!

More power and God Bless
Congrats sa pagkapanalo
WOOOOW you did it!!!!! My superfat congrats!!! You deserve it;-)
Congratulations for winning the blog awards. That is quite hot.
Musical vibrators? hehehe
OMG! You won the Best Personal Blog category!
CONGRATULATIONS SHARI!!
I read the whole thread. I don’t agree on some points but I do agree that there was a LACK of competion in the PH registry. There was a comment there comparing ccTLD (.PH that is) to telco (quoting: there were unlimited texting before but when one started to charge 1 peso for sms, the others followed). For the record, SUN did not follow (at least sending sms from sun to sun). And the fact that SUN was able to offer unlimited call & sms (sun networks), globe and smart followed too by offering unlimited sms for a certain fee.
Again, if the commenter will analyze closely on the telco issues, 3 telco companies DO NOT break the monopoly. There is a another term for that I just forgot what it’s called (dammit!) but it’s what the oil companies are being called. Needless to say, having 3 companies in one industry does not break monopoly. In the case of other ccTLDs or say for .com .net .org A LOT has been offering registration services, and I must say that THAT IS THE TRUE COMPETITION. In the case of .ph registration, i don’t see any.
I hope I’m making sense. Hehe
congrats, you
You won!! congratz!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS! Shari for winning the Personal Blog category award of the PBA!
cheers!
EMS, i think you are referrig to CARTEL. am i right?
@ems: I think you’re talking about “oligopoly” or “cartel”.
Response to 4679:
yep that’s it! thank you for refreshing my memory!
yeah! congratulations!
Hey! Shari! Congratulations!
congrats!
Congratulations, Shari! Well-deserved.
Hrm… I wasn’t aware that there was a such thing as a “blog competition”. *lol* Congrats on winning the awards you did though. Winning an award for anything is a great feeling.
/despair
Congratulations!
Shari! Congrats! Grabe bestest personal blog talaga. Not to mention the bestest…. most revealing dress I have ever seen in that awards night… Talbog silang lahat! Bow bow bow!
Benj: I suspect you’ve talked with the Jester already about that.
Kubi: You’re right. I should’ve worn anything na lang. Di naman lahat sumunod sa dress code. Hmp! Anyway, I pay for the domain and hosting through bank deposit.
Enzo: No problem with the programs. It’s the implementation that’s the very problem.
Aja: Because Disini pointedly explained the expensive price to ONLY SEO experts, etc. Kaya ganun ang reaction nila.
Talamasca: Nope, I only have my hands. Nyahaha!
Ate Ems: Gotcha. Pero pano kaya mangyayari naman kasi yun diba.
Ate Apples: Nyahaha! I told yah it was revealing! Harharhar!
Everyone, thanks! *group hug*
Congrats dear dear Shari. Sorry for being too sensitive that night. Pagod na. Have to mature more.
Jomar
congrats! shari on your win.. here’s to more of your personal musings
This is joel disini, CEO of DotPH. Not sure why some people think we’ve forgotten about bloggers. We were one of the very first online sites to target bloggers. An i.ph domain name is free at http://i.ph. It gets you free email at yourname@i.ph and free webhosting, blogging, photo gallery, podcasting, and profile. I.ph was released more than three years ago, and we’re getting pretty good feedback. Check it out (and pls feel free to give comments on my blog, jed.i.ph).
