From Rags to Riches
Maybe sometimes you have to stop waiting for someone to come along and fix what’s wrong. Maybe sometimes you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself and realize that no one else has the answer. Sometimes, you just have to be your own hero….
I seem to have forgotten to welcome you all to my new domain. How rude of me. Well, welcome to misteryosa.com! And before you ask, of course I get tired of moving around. I move from one domain to another every year. I have to boost up my PR again. Sigh, sigh.
Father and little brother are leaving for PRC on January 2. Hey, that’s great! When they arrive a week later, that leaves me the only one who hasn’t gone to Hong Kong Disneyland yet (my mom went there last year). Good for me! And no, I’m not jealous. A week without my brother is less chores, more internet, and sweet serenity. I think my dad is getting hooked with these Asian trips. It isn’t funny. I have to prepare myself for the will-be-more-frequent financial complaints. And my PhP600-a-week allowance will probably have no hopes in getting a raise. Some might think it’s a lot of money, but I spend at least PhP80 a day just for the fare. It’s just that I handle money wisely that I manage to have something left for myself and something else. Heck, I’m just grateful that I’m luckier than most people who find it hard to get through a day without a single cent.
This reminds me of my evil paternal aunt. My family went to Hulo on Christmas day to eat and celebrate. We used to live there, until the 1990 Earthquake almost completely destroyed our wooden house. My father’s childhood friends still live in the area. Sadly, only my dad has graduated in both high school and college and is now successful enough to have a steady source of income. The rest have very unstable jobs, or no job at all. One of them asked my dad to help him land a job, even as a janitor. My dad told it to us on the way home, and the evil one violently reacted to the idea.
Janitor lang?! Ano ba naman yun?!
I couldn’t believe what I heard! I had to stop myself from coming back with a retort that would’ve given me the beating of my life from my dad. I nudged my mom and looked at her. I knew she understood what I was feeling that time. Good thing it was dark. Nobody saw my red and angry face.
What the hell is wrong with being a janitor? It may not be a decent-paying job, still it’s decent and it’s a job. She’s so self-absorbed with her present stature that she belittles everyone else. She looks down on people who don’t meet her standard. Heck, we’re not even rich in the first place. The ones who have all the money are my relatives from my grandfather’s first wife. She, of all people, should know how hard it is to reach the top when you come from a barely-getting-by family. Life is not a fairytale.
I know I’ve mentioned it lots of times before, but I really loathe her. Everyone I know does - even my mother and cousins. She has this aura of snobbishness that makes a person just dislike her. Add that to the fact that she seems to be my mortal enemy, and we’ve got hell of a war going on in here.
LOL about moving around every year. I’d hate that. LOL about boosting up your PR again. LOL! I don’t have to do that because I don’t want my site on search engines. Hehe…
Aww, sorry that you haven’t been to Disneyland Hong Kong! I haven’t been to any other Disneylands besides the one in the state I live in… LOL.
I’m sorry to hear about your aunt… I have relatives like that, so I’m pretty much used to it…
halo Shari muzta
mali pala yong link na iniwan mo dun sa site ko. org kase yon kaya di ko ma open site mo hahha.. buti nalang i tried. com eto pala com nga.
Happy Holidays!
Wow… PRC… hehehe mah granfather is from amoy, china. Hvnt been there but I wanna go there…
Achii SHari, How much you pay for your host and domain name? TC always!
Gee, how do you manage building up your PageRank again each year?
At least you’ll have fun when your Mom isn’t here, being on the Internet more.
Gawsh, your Dad’s sister sounds like a real witch! How do you manage to keep your sanity?! Sheesh, she’s so…ugh!
I understand what you feel.
my father is REALLY really poor, he’s from quezon and they live in a little kubo and sleep on the floor and he tells me loads of stories when he was young. sabi pa niya, sa kanal sa palengke may nahuhulog na mga barya. ginagawa nila ng mga kaibigan nya sinusungkit nila. pati iisa lang yung uniform nyang gamit nung elementary. may iba syang friends sa probinsya na ganun din, unstable. pero lagi nya parin namang tinutulungan, maski minsan may mga drunk na tao, binibigyan nya parin.. lol, i remember when the office sent dad to US 3 years ago, he asked someone to tell him that its true, kasi parang panaginip lang tlga! lol! minsan sabi ng mga tao parang Im well off and spoiled, di ako laking mayaman. my father too started from nothing. Im proud to say that.
…i always say that it’s WAY better to be a janitor/janitress, kaysa naman maging prostitute. ^-^
Hmm.. I loved HK disneyland. kaso konting konti lang ang rides. pero pagkain ang the best.. lol! hongkong is a lovely place, really clean, and mongkok is really awesome. sarap magshopping.
I hate my aunt as well.. she missed out on my hs graduation to go see a pet psyhic to talk to her dead dog… i was so pissed
Chau: Hehe, well it’s okay. I don’t think I would want to go there anyway.
Some of my paternal relatives are stuck ups, but I just can’t get used to them.
Ethel: Oops, sorry. My hands just type automatically. Can’t control them. Haha!
Seiy: China seems to be an interesting place to visit. Maybe you can ask your parents to go there or something. Hehe
Deanna Marie: Actually, I don’t really know, haha! I just…do it. I don’t even submit my sites to search engines. And I think it’s fairly obvious that I’ve lost my sanity a long time ago. LOL.
Isley: Makes a person grateful, right? I wonder how our families manage to do it. Or maybe evil aunt is right. It isn’t only about dedication, passion, skills, and perseverance - it’s also about luck. Yeah, my mom also told me about HKDL. Boo. And food in other countries is actually more expensive, hehe.
Jenny: Oh-kay. That’s…weird. I’m sorry she had to do that, hehe.
fantastic opening quote. really hit the spot
Ew, that’s rude, obnoxious, and snobbish. Ew. Sadly, there are lots of people like that. I know quite a lot.
Hmm. My paternal aunt and I get along well, only she gets jealous when her daughters spend too much time with me. God knows why.
Pamela: Thanks
Lexie: Yeah. The world’s full of them. Haha, I can’t see why your aunt should be jealous of you. Boo.
I so love the quotation that you posted. It’s very inspiring.
You said that you went to Hulo? Hulo where? Metro Manila? Just curious.. don’t mind me >.
Moving around sucks. I have done it allot myself. And hopefully will not have to at the end of my year. Hope you had a happy holiday..
Hey Shari, thanks for offering me help on my website. But I’ve made my layout look okay in firefox ;D I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your offer =P
And just like everyone else, I love the opening quotation. Hehe.
I’ve never been to the Disneyland in Hong Kong too. I heard that it’s not as good as the one in the US
But I might go in the future anyway. Lol
Your aunt sounds like a really mean person. It was really snobby of her to look down on people without jobs with good pay =S The only people I look down on are the ones who look down on people for the WRONG REASONS. ugh
heya shari! .COM ka na pla! Thats why I haven’t been in your site for so long! Kasi I type addresses on the the address bar.. ehh i always thought it was .ORG nagmove ka na pla.. i never noticed the .com change until now! nyeheheh
hong kong disneyland… awww.. that’s okay i havent been there too.. i havnt been in another country actually! heck!
ooh yes i’d probably loathe her too.
I can understand why you are moving around. I want to do that every year too but I still have infektia after all
Oh pagerank, couldn’t care less
Sounds like a total nightmare Aunt to have! I don’t like mine but then I rarely see her for more than an hour a year so I can stomach it!
I love the quote you’ve put at the beginning of the post aswell!
Nako, I think lahat tayo may evil aunt/uncle. Ako din meron, pero hindi naman sha evil all the time. i kinda get a long well with her actually. pero hindi din all the time. when she turns her back on me, ayon, pipintasan ko na din sha. and no, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a janitor.. at least may trabaho, kesa wala!
hi sis. congrats sa bago mong bahay at eto ako napadaan. anyway ang ganda naman ng quote mo, tama yan sis! Happy New Year!
I haven’t been to any Disneyland yet
My parents keep using the dumb excuse of “Wait till you’re older, then you’ll be taller to go on the rides.”
Perhaps your aunt has gotten to the point where people who aren’t like her in status, are automatically deemed “unworthy”. Geez. There’s nothing wrong with being a janitor. They make the world a cleaner place
Haha I don’t quite see how your brother not being home decreases the amount of chores.. wouldn’t the logical thought be that it increases your workload?
Or maybe he makes the chores..
Self-righteous, status-conscious relatives (or people in general) are never any fun.
You think she’d feel a little pity, but noo..
Janelle: Yep, Metro Manila.
Stephanie: Too much work, eh? I sure hope you don’t have to go through that again.
Jeannie: Hey, no problem with that. I love helping out with WP - when I don’t need too much help for it myself.
Phoebe: Hehe, good thing you still found me.
Malin: And yours is a catchy domain name.
Claire: Actually, I don’t see her that much either, but still we can’t stomach each other, LOL.
Nina: Haha! Human nature.
My aunt and I don’t talk with each other. She’s also the only aunt I don’t kiss whenever we have a family reunion.
Rachel: Thanks for dropping by.
Melanie: Hah, maybe you should wait. But…are you that small?
And I agree, janitors make the world a bearable place to live in.
Danni: My brother’s the only one who makes serious mess around the house. And he doesn’t do anything but stare in front of his computer, or watch the television. That’s minus dishes to wash and clothes to laundry.
hey twinnie! i didn’t know you moved! =P i kept clicking the link to your old domain but it wouldn’t work. then i found your link in aurus’s blog. i was like, YAY, finally! hehe..
anyways, that was, um, kinda rude of your aunt to say that remark about your dad’s friend. yeah, being a janitor isn’t all that, but it’s still a source of income. oh well, i guess some people are really like that. they just seriously piss me off. haha.
twinnie, i missed you *hugs* ♥
For some reason, I don’t feel welcome here! Kidding. :-)
Your aunt is a total biatch. She’s definitely hell-bound. ‘Nuff said.
Thanks for the b-day greeting! *winks*
Michelle: Hey, I’m here, okay? I’ve missed you too. *hugs* Visit the Philippines again soon! Let’s conquer the world with Lorenz and others again, hehe!
Talamasca: Screw you! You’re not welcome here! LOL. Belated happy birthday
Haha, I wouldn’t care if I’d get grounded for life. I would’ve retorted in a snap. :P Some people so belittle the value of simply working. Paraphrasing for a Bible verse: whatever you do, great or little, you will reap great benefits if you don’t give up.
I fully intend never to move domans again, I’m on my 3rd
hi ate shari! naku. new domain ka pala ulit ngayon. unga pala, i changed your URL in my site already. ^__^ Php80 for the fare?? what the. hhmm.. oh well, good thing for you that you’ll have a loving life ahead without your brother fooling around, which gives you less chores and a lot more time with the i-net.
wee! oh well, ingat sis. wee! lagi kang change ng change ng domain ah… hhmm. first is the black-apogee. right? oh well, goodluck with this new site!
haay… hanggang ngayon di ko pa masyadong naaayos site ko. kainis, ang daming kelangan iupdate.
===
yung father ko, nakapunta na sa hk disneyland, insentive niya sa trabaho, and next year sa thailand naman siya pupunta… kelan kaya ako makakapunta sa ibang bansa? haaay…

well, one does not really need to start with a job that has a promising and high salary… everything starts with the smallest details. everything has a process.
Aravis: My dad and I had this little agreement that I wouldn’t snap at the evil aunt ever again. Heck, everyone knows that we hate each other’s guts.
Han: Wish I can promise myself the same thing.
Sandra: Yeah. Domainera, hehe!
Christian: Good luck. One [person] can actually lose sleep over this moving domains thing.
hey there, aww i just said goodbye to my domain and moved to subdomain instead, i could never afford to keep a domain. (sigh)
i had a lecturer who had Hate Me written all over his face, he was that of a disgusting person that everyone in my class loathed him to hell. im sorry to hear about the mortal enemy of yours, but i hope peace comes soon. may you have a good new year
And I assume this aunt is your mom’s sister?
600 a week? Man, how do you manage to spend only 80 a day? In college, I had a weekly allowance of 1300-1500 and I was forever short on cash
Wow, I love that quote at the top of your page. Makes a lot of sense
And I know what it’s like to bounce from one domain to another. I did that for a while. But I think I finally settled with my current domain. Heh.
Rei: Thank you.
Helga: Nope. My dad’s. Hehe, I said I spend 80/day on fares alone. That doesn’t include my food and other what-nots. I’m a loser. Boo!
Breanne: I know. Hah! Glad you’ve finally settled. I wish I can too.
The title of the entry got me interested so I read it. I have an evil aunt too (I know the feeling and I can relate, at least I think so) and someday i’m gonna shove money and success in her face, if she’s still alive at that time…
Ed: Almost everyone has an evil relative. And I have the same goal as yours, Ed. I really hate her, LOL.
[...] I went to Malabon to meet my second cousins from the US. They left just yesterday. And as expected, my evil aunt made another scene. Really, if she wanted peace while talking with the operator on the phone, she [...]
