Harassment!!!

OMIGOSH OMIGOSH OMIGOSH!!!

I cannot believe it! I just CAN’T! I refuse to even think that it’s possible, but it’s true! And I’m totally weirded out!

I watched Imbestigador a couple of hours ago because I felt that I knew the dean of a university in Laguna1 who was recently arrested for something that has to do with sex. And I was right!!! I felt totally grossed out while seeing him on TV - with scenes from the sex video he took while having sex with one of his students!

Arnel Salgado was our principal when I was a high school senior in Saint James College of Quezon City not too long ago. Yes, yes! The very same school and principal that were involved in the Faye Fairytale hoax, which was about the 12-year-old girl who supposedly represented the country in an international competition and gave “a series of unfortunate events” a whole new meaning by taking it to the next level of ridiculousness and deceit.

Sir Salgado knew me personally and, I must say, quite well, because I was the former Xientian2 - a new student - who had a terrible case of absenteeism3, got issued quite a number of SVRs, and got suspended 3 times all for the stupidest reasons.

I absolutely disliked Sir Salgado for reasons known very well to us Jamesians who had to suffer a year under his tyrannical rule. No cellphones, no rings and other jewelries save for two earrings, no colorful4 accessories which include ponytails and headbands, no frigging freedom! He also had this certain attitude against people who were part of the CAT. He was also rumored to be gay.

So when I saw the news, my initial reaction was, “Male or female?!Aba, female. At asenso! Females! And he took a video of his sexual encounter with one of the girls! Hayuf ang gago!

And to sum it all up, here’s a simple equation of his case:

dean + student 1 = sexual
dean + student 2 = harassment
(dean + student 1) + (dean + student 2) = sexual harassment

If/When proven guilty of the accusations, he’d serve a life sentence in jail. Serves him right.

Another case of harassment also happened at QueSci, my blackboard jungle for over 3 years before I stopped high school. Jireh Espinosa, a Math whiz alumnus of the school5, blogged about an incident that fueled my anger even more at this certain despicable creature we shall simply call Ramon Lorenzo. He’s the one whose crosswords I furiously answer everyday.

Jireh wrote,

Last February 13, 2007, Tuesday, the Local Math Quiz was held at Quesci and I was present to assist in the competition. During the preparations for the first year level competitions, i was onstage instructing one of the contestants on what to do. That’s when I felt someone hit me on the arm.

It was Mr Lorenzo. And he was furious, “Bakit nandito ka nanaman? di ba pinapaalis ka na?6“…

Needless to say, I was stunned. I never thought he’d go so low. I tried to hold myself together, and hence I did the only thing I could do at the time. I looked him in the eyes. I wasn’t going to back down.

Seeing this, he took of his glasses and challenged me to a fight. Mr Lorenzo clenched his fists and challenged me to a fight…

In front of students…

In front of faculty…

in front of his son…

Thankfully, I managed to find the strength to control myself and walk away.

I also never thought he’d stoop so low. For a person who boasts his membership at Mensa7, his so-called brilliance, his numerous TV game show stints as a contestant8, and a myriad of other things, he certainly has an attitude that leaves a lot to be desired.

I wish the necessary actions would be taken against him. I’m not saying this out of bitterness for the 83 grade I got from him when I was still under his “tutelage”. Failing grade or not, I still abhor his arrogance. He has this superiority complex that immediately turns off those wise enough to know better. The people who suck up to him are the leeches and social climbers (and the Math desperates). I’ve never known a person who still liked Lorenzo after the torturous junior Math under him9. It’s not a secret that he gives high grades to his favorites. And fail the people who are better than him and/or dislike him - just like what he did to a significant number of people.

Justice shall come knocking on both Salgado and Lorenzo’s doors. Just you wait and see.

OK, so you make a compelling case to install that footer plugin, LOL.

60% of the school year? Whoah, I always suspected you were a bad girl. (Yes, I can identify with that - I missed about 40% of my last 2 years in high school.)

And I can also know what it’s like to meet severely inappropiate teachers. In grade 5 (Roman Catholic school), I had this male teacher who like to get overly “touch feely” with all his female students… in particular, he liked to single out one girl. I remember the last day of school, he wanted all the girls line up to sit on his lap and hug him. So yeah, me and my friends pretty much said to each other, “ewww” and left.

Anyway, Mr. Touchy Feely suddenly disappeared from school for 2 years - no reason was communicated to us. Several years later… there were allegations of sexual molestation.

… and many years later, I also found out that there was a charge against a priest in the nearby church (affiliated with the school). Basically, he was moved to another location or retired. The case was hushed. Sooooo pathetical sad. Those dudes would have a harder time of getting away with it now because victims are not so quiet these days.

It could’ve ruined my faith in God and belief in my religion, but many years later… I realized that it wasn’t God at fault, but perverted men and the people who protect those perverts by hushing up the truth.

Bleah, this is totally depressing. OK, I’m done.

  3. sexy mom

gigil talaga (i don’t know how to express it in english). these people should rot in jail!!!

  4. NiCa

  5. Jillian

Well, I’m glad I didn’t go to that school. I thought mine was bad with just drugs and pregnant teens. I never had to deal with an abusive teacher, and I’m thankful for that. I feel sorry for those girls that did.

  6. Camia

WOAH. ewww that’s disgusting. he’s been arrested now? good.

  7. Michael

Looks like the case of Religious School is piling up.

    fruityoaty,

Priest sexually harrasing children is worldwide.

Also in America, there was this well-known married Pastors who turned up to be gay.

I never could trust religious schools.

  8. Elicia

Hopefully they both get what they deserve now. It must be really weird to know what he did, especially since you knew him personally.

  9. Anne

Eww. He’s one messed-up man. I forgot to watch Imbestigador last night but then he’s all over the news. It’s impossible to miss him. I hope he gets what he deserves.

  10. christian

Ang problema kasi, inaabuso nila ang posisyon nila. Hindi naman sapat na dahilan na may posisyon sila para maltratuhin nila ang mga students. May alam akong case na ganito, pero mananahimik muna ako. Lol.

  11. J.J.

This is so disgusting! Salgado was my science teacher in Paranaque. I knew the guy was scum but I had no idea he was that bad. This is so gross, but I kinda wanna see the news report, just so I can laugh at the guy.

  12. Chau

    Wow, that’s crazy…

But ehh, I hear these stuff all of the time though, even though it is disgusting…

  13. Talamasca

    Wow! Just wow!

He is sooo going to hell.

  14. Rach

I watched a segment about that dean on TV. It was an interview and I noticed he was wearing a tinge of make up. So that kept me thinking.

I saw a censored clip of that sexual act on the news. It’s shocking! That dean should really be punished. I wonder if there were other victims.

  15. Brandy

    My 11th grade geometry teacher.

Don’t even get me started. A very perverted old man. In his 50’s. He used to fart. Yes, fart. Loud as the light of day. He had his tongue peirced. Looked down girls shirts. He loved CLEAVAGE. He was a biker dude. Drove a motorcycle to work everyday.

He used to sit at his desk a lot, with his hands down. He never looked like he was doing anything. You’d never see him write a thing. We often wondered what he was doing…

No kidding. Most girls used to go to geometry class everyday, and instead of learning equations, having the fear of being raped.

I wonder if the staff has picked it up yet.

  16. Ellie

ARG! DISGUSTING! I also saw the Imbestigador episode last night. It was disturbing…and his excuses, pffft.

  17. Dyei

hindi ko napanuod yung imbestigador episode na yan. :( anyway, napanuod ko yata yung news na yan.. somewhere else. sa 24oras yata.. habang naghuhugas ako ng pinggan. :)

back to my comment, grabe sa kakapalan ng mukha yang dean na yan. menyek siya! menyek.. nakakatakot siya. ang galing niyang umabuso ng kapangyarihan. imbes na ehemplo, isa siyang diablo. anak ng.. whew.

    i agree with talamasca.. :yay:

he is soo going to hell.

  18. Monalisa xoxo

i’ve seen a portion of that expose. i never thought of watching it til the end coz it was gross  yuck! maniac teachers like him should be dumped in jail forever.

  19. Danni

Wow.. that’s contarded  We have pretty bad teachers and subs at our school/county in general, but not that bad.. (I think.)

I hope they get their comeuppance, and quick.

On a random note, I love the new layout and the smilies  They’re soooo adorable! Haha I’m such a freak;; I love emoticons waaay too much.

  20. benj

    I watched the same show.

He recorded their “activities” as a security blanket. Huh?

He was even trying to justify it. :yay: Idiot.

tsk tsk. Shari, whats with the people you hang out with?

  21. ems

This is crazy! I met Faye’s supposed father (a taxi driver) and he was VERY VERY MAD with the majority of the Filipinos for thinking that her daughter’s story is a hoax. He said that he couldn’t believe Filipinos’ crab mentality and that instead of helping each other, Filipinos pull each other down. I don’t know but I am leaning to believing this man. He was teary-eyed when he was telling the story to me. And I don’t think this man’s crazy..

As for Salgado, sue him! He’s grossed, jerk and a TOTAL ASSHOLE! F**k him! I pity the students … nakakainis!!

  22. Shari

Fruityoaty: Yeah, I did eh? I used to do that manually. Ugh. And heeey, I never did tell anyone that I’m a good student. People can be surprising.

Michael: I hate to say this, but in a sense, I agree with you. :cheek:

Christian: There’s got to be a hundred cases similar to this. Hindi naman isolated ang ganyang mga kaso. It still depends on how the involved individuals would handle the situation.

JJ: Me too. I never thought he’s that disgusting. My classmates and I hated him because he always singled out our section. :cute: Malas, naging teacher mo pa. Eek!

Ate Rach: Yeah, yeah. And if I remember correctly, he also has a family. I wonder how they’re doing now.

Brandi:  Well I should hope that he didn’t do anything…disgraceful.

Dyei: Hay naku, never naging “ehemplo” yang taong yan. Rawr!

Benj: Tell me about it. I couldn’t believe his excuse for taking that video. And hey!!! What does your question mean?

Ate Ems: The kid’s story was investigated and NONE of what she and her mother claimed were verified. There were no records of them even leaving the country. The competition that the girl supposedly won didn’t even have a record of the kid. The church that published her story issued a public apology and said that the whiz kid’s story wasn’t true. Pat Evangelista, the one who wrote the news article that brought attention to the story, was discredited and criticized by a lot of people, and she wrote another article admitting her “foolishness and weakness” for falling for that story without checking the facts first. The whole story was a lie. The Philippine Daily Inquirer article that ran a story with the headline “We lied because no one loved us, says ‘whiz’ kid ma” isn’t working (it was still in inq7.net) but luckily, I found a comment on the J Spotter’s old blog that has the complete story. Scroll down to the second to the last comment. Even the girl admitted that everything was bogus.

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against the kid. Yes, in a way, Faye was responsible because she was already in Grade 6 that time, so she should have known better. But my anger is directed towards her delusional mom who made up the story. It’s almost funny and ironic that the taxi driver who claimed to be Faye’s father defended his daughter’s story. From the article,

    Shari said,

Faye lost her father recently when her mother, Cathy San Juan, discovered that her husband had been married all along to another woman. Faye’s parents separated last year.

Cathy, in a separate “confession,” told her pastors that she came up with the incredible story of her daughter winning an international competition in Brisbane, Australia, because she felt that nobody loved them.

    [...]

Faye said her mom had been detached and depressed, often staring into space since her father left, according to the pastor. Cathy would frequently spank her for little mistakes, Faye said.

“And then she said they thought of the story. They planned it to somehow get back at Faye’s father,” Varona said.

How this would work against Faye’s dad, the girl did not explain.

If it wasn’t a hoax, then what was it?

  23. ApplesH

Grabe! I also watched that segment. It was really shocking. I mean, there have been a lot of video scandals that have come up but this one really takes center stage. I mean, justifying the video by saying he only needed protection.. Duh? Obviously this guy is stupid as he practically admitted he did something wrong by admitting he wanted protection. And no matter how “true” the story that he did not force himself on that student… well he is still the dean and it will be very difficult for him to prove that it was not because of his position that the student agreed to sleep with him.

  24. L.A

WTF? Napanood ko din yung show and i was shock!!!! DEAN pa yun ha, kamusta naman.

What? Ouch! He challenge you to a fight? How primitive is that….Ok lang yan Shari! Makaka-ganti ka din dun

  25. Anna

thats just plain gross. im actually stumped for things to say. i cant even think about it……………… :mouthshut:

  26. Francesca

    And still, I’m disgusted… What a shame!

Wow. That’s pretty freaky if you ask me! I heard about this news before. Wow, and you knew him too. Ew, he is disguisting and yes, it serves him right!

  28. Shari

Ate Apples: Exactly. His reason for recording the act is really…unbelievable! I can’t believe the galls of that guy!

LA: No, I’m not the one who was challenged by the darn Math teacher.

Ate Francesca: You’re always missing in action. But hey, I’ve missed you!

H.Love: I have never appreciated the way he teaches. I can’t even say that the lessons are programmed in his brain dahil grabe siya sa pagkabisa, but must he stick to his notes word for word? No, I don’t think he’s a genius at all like he boasts he is, because he doesn’t know how to completely analyze things. Ang alam lang niya yung nababasa at kinakabisado niya. I’ve never been impressed with kabisaderos at kabisaderas. And what’s with the CAT? Matagal ng usap-usapan yan. Nung nalaman niyang COCC kami, nagiba trato niya sa amin ng iba kong classmates. Sinabi na lang sa amin na INSECURE ang loko. Bakit? Kasi nag-quit siya dati dahil di niya kinaya yung hirap. Grabe siya. Lahat ng sinisipsip siya, matataas ang grades. Heck, I should know. I’ve been in the receiving end of his ridiculousness. My past Math teachers were shocked when they found out that I failed Math (pero didn’t wonder why when I said Lorenzo’s my frigging teacher), dahil kahit na bwisit ako sa Math, kahit papano may utak naman ako. Sina Sir Chua at Sir Bitancol, magagaling pa magturo at hindi nanghuhula ng grades. Mayabang na kung mayabang pero Math has always been one of my two best subjects, alongside English. Pasensya na lang kung madalas ako matulog sa klase, pero at least naiintindihan ko naman mga lessons namin (hindi nga lang galing sa kanya dahil sobrang wala siyang kwentang magturo). Jireh may have disrespected Lorenzo nung estudyante pa siya ng huli, pero sabi nga ni Jireh, he knows when he’s in the wrong. And what Lorenzo did that day sa quiz bee? That’s totally uncalled for. Sorry for the word pero GAGO talaga siya.

King-joy: I don’t think Nica’s referring to the sex video mismo. Yung news lang po siguro. o_O

  36. mj

and you know what guys, nagbail na yung dean courtesy of the cabuyao municipal office worth 2 million… yun ang balita dito sa cabuyao….

  37. h.l0ve

i guess i dint see it in that light… was the type of matigas na ulo student but not to the point na pasaway sa rules…

guess its the only way to beat your smart minds, you and jireh…

and, i dont know that issue about CAT students…

anyway, atleast you got past him na… its part of student life… profs we do not like. ang mejo off nga lang was, alumnus na si jireh tas mainit pa rin siya hehe…

  38. Tess

I don’t know why this guy Salgado was made dean in that university. He’s just so crazy. And stupid, too, to even make that sex video. The even more stupid thing is that his basis for saying that he isn’t at fault because the sexual relations he had with those poor victims were consensual. Ok lang siya?!?! What kind of logic is that? Even if those victims consented to having sex with him (those are horrible moments, indeed, that aren’t worth remembering), he would still be at fault because he’s the dean of the university and those are his students! Nakakagigil nga talaga. And his ugly face and voice is really irritating. Talaga at naging principal pa siya during your high school, Shari? Kawawa naman pala kayo nun. Hehe. Buti wala siyang hinarass na students noon.

  39. Shari

    MJ: OMG!!! Grrr!!!

H.love: Kaya nga eh. Ewan ko ba dyan sa Lorenzong yan. Hmp!

Dra. Tess: Well I certainly hope not! We’re wondering the same thing, pero wala pa namang umaamin so far.

  50. sheilarouge

Hi shari, i really can’t believe the story about ramon lorenzo. I used to work with him closely during the 2005 seagames when i was still with abc sports. He was one of the headwriters. Before working with him, I only knew him as the crossword-maker, TV contest-trivia guy, brain blitz writer that he is. Even so, he is a very calm, quiet, sensible and composed, real sensitive guy, I can’t imagine him doing something like that to that former student. I’m sorry but I really can’t believe the story, may be something is missing, say he was provoked? Or maybe I’m one of those who openly express my admiration for him that’s why he’s kind to me. Well, if that is true, he truly is a very vicious character. If this is the conclusion, I still can’t believe it.

  51. ayiene

si sir lorenzo talaga ang gumawa nun?

may rumors nga sa school about jireh vs sir lorenzo. :P

    aun. nakooo? ganun talaga? haha.
