How Sweetly Mundane

My mother received a letter from the Office of Scholarship and Financial Assistance of UP Baguio notifying her about the recognition day for all the Honorific Academic Scholars the past school year. Surprisingly, I finished the year with a GWA high enough to make it as a College Scholar (or, as more people know it, Dean’s Lister). Mother was excited to go, until she read the date of the event: February 26, 2007. Yeah, a month ago.

I almost LOLed at her face, which was full of panghihinayang and annoyance. Hey, it’s not exactly my fault that our area is sooo far from civilization that letters sent to our address are either lost or late. The only things that always magically make their way to our house are the bills. Just how cruel is that?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Transferring to UP Diliman is the biggest mistake I have ever made in my entire life. :shake; It’s passing the UPCAT with a UPG that makes me eligible to enter any UP campus I want to attend, choosing UP Baguio to get as far away as possible from my family (and savoring my second year of independence from them, and totally loving my life in the City of Pines), then going back to square one. Talk about complete and utter stupidity. Brought to you by no other than yours truly. :blank:

Anyway, my paternal cousins and I finally saw each other again! :yay: It’s been a long while since we bonded with each other. Two celebrations happened yesterday: the baptismal of a new family member (I attended only the reception bwahaha), and the 21st birthday of a cousin. It was fun, fun, fun! The topics ranged from politics (of course I endorsed Kabataan Partylist, and my best cousin expressed her disgust for Prospero Pichay for being apparently a corrupt), to an absent cousin (who is beginning to have the makings of a “slut” — or so they say), to favorite summer deserts (halo-halo and ice cream, anyone?), to delicious pizzas (because we were hungry), to our childhood memories (we couldn’t believe that we’re all in college or in the workforce now — except for my brother, who is only in grade school). We planned a get-together sometime soon. Can’t wait.

You can now vote for your favorite blog for the Blogger’s Choice Award in the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards. Sadly, you can vote only once, so use the vote wisely. // You can receive an invite for the event by following these steps. The attire is semi-formal to formal. Guh-reat. Dammit. //

And Wikipedia co-founder seeks to start over. Interesting.

  2. JJ

    yup. i already voted. lol

wait. UPB ka di ba? So next sem UPD ka na? Hahaha! Try mo UPLB! Lb din kasi ako. lol!

  3. Shari

Yahneh: True. Snail mail nga eh, lol. Ganun talaga. ;)

JJ: Hey, daya! 300! Rawr! Bakit may free passes ka? Ang dayaaaaa! Hehe. Anyway, sa UPB po ako last school year. This school year po sa UPD po ako. Wala lang, gusto kasi mag-transfer ng mga kabahay ko, so I tagged along. Eh hindi rin naman lahat kami naka-transfer. ^_^

Mas malala ako, my school thought that I’m a college scholar. They even wanted me to get back to school during the awarding ceremonies. After a few days, I found myself talking to the college secretary explaining why I wasn’t in the awarding ceremonies. I said that I’m not a CS, but she insisted that I am and she asked me to make a letter of apology addressed to the dean explaining why I missed the awarding ceremonies. In the end, I proved to them that I’m not lol. Ang masama pa, walang compensation for the damages that they made to me. Na perwisyo ako run!

What? Wikipedia plans to start all over again? It would take some time to rebuild the free encyclopedia. But then, kung magiging mas reliable, why not?

  5. Aisha

nko sis.. knowing u.. hnd na yan kagulat gulat hehe

  6. Shari

Christian: Errr? It’s required for CS to attend awarding ceremonies? Bullcrap. Just goes to show how ridiculous some frigging universities/colleges/schools can get.

Aisha: Uhm, yung alin? Hindi ko alam kung binasa mo o ano, pero sige, salamat na lang sa komento.

  7. Robyn

Nice blog… And I congratulate your mom for having an intelliegent such as you… kahit pa late nakarating sa inyo ang invitation… :yay:

  8. Talamasca

Galing galing talaga! Isa kang ulirang anak!

It sure feels euphoric being with your cousins, doesn’t it? I heart my cousins, too, and most of them are on my BFF list. :-)

  9. Sherica

OMFG. I LOL when I read that It was last Feb. Taga san ka ba ate? At uhmm sayang nga naman sa part ni nanany mo. :yay:

  10. Sandra

wah! the letter was given to you soo late! hhmm.. but yea, that made me laugh too! LOL. anyway,, ill be voting! :)

  11. Corinne

I hate that lol. I always get the letters way late, and then it’s like, what do we do now?

Especially since a lot of my mail goes home, and not here at school.

  12. Ann

Ah yes, our UP-related regrets XP.

I agree w/ your cuz on P.ichay. double XP

Fruity is my wise choice :)

  13. Shari

Robyn: Aww, dang. That’s just pure tsamba, I swear. ;)

Talamasca: Nyeh, hindi rin noh! Haha! I love my cousins. :) We’ve been close since we were kids. ;)

Sherica: Somewhere in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. :) Looban kasi yung place namin. You have to ride a tricycle for 15-25 minutes to be able to reach our house.

Sandra: It is snail mail. Can’t blame ‘em, lol.

Corinne: Yeah, what do we do now? :boogie:

Ann: We could trade places/schools, you know. Anyway, cuz hates Pichay’s guts because while they were doing their community immersion in Zambales, all they could see were Pichay posters lined up on everywhere, even in remote areas. I wonder just how Pichay earned his “supporters” to fund for his ads. Eek.

Fruity is my wise choice as well. I’d have voted for 4 people — Fruity, Benj Espina, Ade Magnaye, and The Jester-in-Exile — but Fruity has always been the first on my list. It’d be a shame though; she won’t be here on the finals. Sighs.

  14. Chau

Hey! That Honors event was on my 21st birthday!! Hehe… Congrats on making it, though!!

Hmm about the Wikipedia thing. I didn’t hear about it until you brought that up…

  15. ems

Hmmm.. just curious, and how did your cousin know that Pichay is indeed a corrupt? I mean, yeah I know most trapos are corrupt, but does your cousin have proofs to sustain her claim?

Accidentally though, I happened to meet one of Prospero’s nephews. And because I am being “lucky”, he’s endorsing Pichay to all of his friends (I believe that includes me!?!)… hehehe…

but for the record, that nephew of his is a very very good man :)

  16. ems

    double post…

  17. JJ

    ems..

ayaw ko siraan si pichay but he is not on the good side.

sinigawan niya ang isang general sa AFP dahil na-detain ang isang congressman dahil sa pagdala ng baril at bala sa eroplano. Na-detain yung congressman na yun dahil sa ginawa niya and guess who calls the AFP general demanding to release the congressman? Cong. Pichay of course!

Source ko? Hmm… yung #2 guy ng General.

  18. JJ

^yung source yun yung pinagkuhanan ng info ng source ko. lol. as in super lapit yung source hehe. inside sa military at high ranking. I won’t name him kasi mahirap na…

but if you guys wanna vote for Pichay then go ahead. mukhang tutulugan tayo kasi “mangangarap” lang yata siya…

  19. Shari

Ate Ems: That’s why I used the word “apparent”. It just seems like it, and she believes in it. Your question is really funny, because the first thing that came to mind was the question, “How did people know god is real? Do they have proofs?” You know the drill. Just because you believe in it doesn’t make it true.

Given, Pichay is one of the most articulate amongst Team Unity senatoriables, but dammit, he sounds and looks like someone I won’t trust even with my one finger. I swear. He has TRAPO written all over him. Like he says, the money he spends in campaigning is a money well spent to win, because he intends to win. Mangarap na lang siya mag-isa niya.

If you were to ask me the same question, I won’t just say Pichay is corrupt (because everyone is corrupt. and i believe he is). I’d say I don’t like him because I find him a nuisance as a senatoriable. And I am totally hating going out now because of his frigging posters. Grabe! One has to wonder why, as a Congressman of Surigao del Sur, he has so much money to spare (supporters? really now? how about the bulky pork barrel?) when the province remains to be one of the poorest in the whole of the Philippines. Hello, pork barrel? Where have you gone?

There’s also this one incident wherein he showed his anti-feminist side when blatantly opposed a lawmaker’s intension to change the law regarding adultery and concubinage (I suppose you know about the two laws and how ridiculously unfair they are?). “No way,” he said. Maybe because he loves sex adventures while he was a smut tabloid publisher before (I think it was Tiktik).

And, as a clincher, when asked if he’s willing to give up his pork barrel to fund for education and health and other social services, he said NO. Ho-hum. If that’s not ridiculous enough, may pahabol pa na he opposed because everyone said yes. Pucha. Nabobo ako.

I hate him for the same reason I hate Paris Hilton. I just do. He disgusts me. Enough said.

  20. Shari

JJ: Thanks for sharing. :p Hay, you know what they say. Birds of the same feather blah blah blah.

  21. Anna

ha ha. that happens to the best of us. lol. glad u had fun with your cousins. i wish i could spend time with all my cousins. the last time was……………………..gosh, when was it? lol.

  22. Fatsky

    hello!

got here thru the Phil. blog awards link and saw that you were in TABAK -awwww

tabak din akes :) (batch 96). kakamiss ang tambayan at walang kamatayang pagre-re enact ng Juan de la cruz :)

ingats and good luck sa Phil blog awards!!!

    xoxoxo

  23. Monalisa xoxo

what if, hindi ka pumunta sa diliman.. cguro patuloy pa rin ang pag-e-excel mo sa class… kasi nga naman you lost your passion…can’t you go back to baguio??

congratulations for being a CS!!! Wohhoo! Ako, wish ko lang yun!!

anyways, the bayantel service that im talking about is just dial -up my dear.. so.. medyo mabagal siya.. but i think its cheaper than what you are using right now.

    Ciao! :boogie:

  24. atomicgirl

i think hindi naman required talaga na um-attend sa ceremonies. pero once (or twice) lang ako naging CS, eh last year ko na sa UP.

  25. keysi

are you going to be there (awards night) Shari? I think I’ll go. My place is just around the corner.

  26. howling

Wow! I thought being UPS is already ’skolar ng bayan’… then here you come making it as CS. That’s a bit redundant, isn’t it? Maybe I’m just being daft. LOL! Congrats, anyways. Well done! I’ve also voted for you sa Blogger’s Choice… Am I allowed to tell everyone? You bloody deserve it!

  27. Nagi

That admin officer was the only person who’s eyeing on me on that incident. Babae nya kasi yun. The rest got my point naman.
Galing naman. U have the UPG!

  28. liz

Shari will wear sexy black velvet evening gown on saturday awards night! Wooot…

Waah, di ba talaga pwede mag maong? Hehe. Pasaway.

  29. Ann

Shari> Amen. You should here the stories about him. But I guess even his public image is tarnished.

  30. janelle

i’ll remember that.. i have a plan to transfer kasi after 1 year. tatandaan ko na lang yung mga words of wisdom mo dito para before i decide na lumipat eh mahimasmasan muna ako.

pero honestly, i feel im a complete failure nung nalaman kong hindi ako nakaabot sa quota ng upd na 2.300 nyahaha.. pero hindi naman pala

about prosporo pitchay.. my dad also told me na he’s that corrupt. nagulat kasi ako nung makita ko mga ads nya sa tv. akala ko nung una nuisance candidate lang siya.. rawr.. at take note, siya pa ang may pinakamalaking nagastos para sa mga ads nya.. booooooo!

  31. Shari

Anna: It’s been that long, eh? But then, the Filipinos have always prided themselves for the strong sense of family ties, so it isn’t really surprising. :)

Fatsky: And Isko/Iska! Hehe, honestly, it’s one of the things that made me choose TABAK (over ANAKBAYAN, where I was originally being recruited at). ;) I badly miss TABAK din. Sighs. ^_^ Thanks for the good luck wish!

Monalisa: Hehe. I’d be a CS/US if I wanted to. I just really don’t like to make such a big deal out of it. The reason why I’m surprised I was a CS is because of my excessive absences. o_O I’d give anything to go back to Baguio. Kaso…Mahirap na rin diba? Eek, dial-up din. I’d spend 1K na lang for a broadband service of Globe.

Atomicgirl: Yeah, heck, it’d be ridiculous if we’re required to attend the ceremonies. Haller? :p

Keysi: I might. I’m working on it. o_O But heck, go! Show me your inked arm ha hehe. ;)

Howling: Awww! You should have been there yourself! :p Thanks for the vote meeeh. *ehug*

Nagi: Sighs. Kaya pala. Related kasi, tsk.

Liz: Loko moko? LOL. Magkakalat lang ako dun. Gaaah. I don’t know what to wear. Heck, my everyday attire consists of an oversized tshirt, pants/shorts, and slippers. Rawr. You’re lucky. Sexy ka eh, lol. Woot!

Ann: Hay naku. I don’t even want to know the rest. I rest my case. He’s a trapo, and that’s that.

Janelle: Then don’t get too involved with your college freshman buddies. It’ll be hard to leave ‘em behind. I seriously wonder why people find passing the UPCAT or not as a standard of one’s intelligence. It isn’t hard to pass the UPCAT (because heck, it’s just an IQ exam), but the quota is the clincher. So really, people should stop feeling like a failure. It’s useless thinking too much about it.

    Ahh, Pichay. Grrr. Grrrrrrr! GGRRRRRR!!!

  32. Joanna

wow dean’s lister.. ang talino mo sis.. hala kawawa naman yung mommy mo.. excited na excited tapos biglang boom tapos na pala.. hehehe.. pasaway.. natraffic ng 1 month yung letter..

  33. Dyei

    what the.. sayang naman.

:hehe:

ofcourse.. i’ll vote for you sa blog awards! ;]

  34. kubi

how unfortunate that he has such a catchy slogan. “pichay: itanim sa senado.” here, have a pun everyone.

congrats on making it as cs. and my sympathies on you leaving upb. it is, indeed, a great campus. but i’m sure you’ll do well in diliman. hang in there.

p.s. your smileys are fun. siyempre gusto ko talagang i-click lahat pero kelangan ko munang mag-appear respectful.

  35. the jester-in-exile

    hey shari,

i’ll vote for you if you guarantee to read your acceptance speech.

    mwaha.

  36. Juice

OMG! I’m in the blog of a smart smart girl. Oh man it sucks when mails come late, do they have e-mails for those? I mean you’re online a lot right, they should do that or something. Sayang kasi naman diba.

Aww you’re making me miss my cousins back in the Philippines now.

    I voted! I voted!

  37. Shari

Joanna: I should have taken a photo of her face! It’s precious! LOL

Dyei: Eh di…I-endorse mo pa rin ang Kabataan Partylist! Hehe ;)

Kubi: Actually, the tagline really has a negative effect on me. Turn-off, promise! Haha! Corny. Hey, be my guest. Click on all the smilies you want. ;)

The Jester-in-Exile: Awww, dang. That’s blackmail! Haha! If I won, I’d read it. :p

Juice: Oh noes! That a misconception! Hehe! Anyway, they don’t send out emails. Hmp. They want to ensure that the parents get the letter and not the students.

Awww, go back here sa Pinas kasi. ;) And thanks for the vote. Mwah! Hehe!

  38. sexy mom

i found a medal in the boy’s room–i didn’t know who it belonged to. when i asked, i found out it was BA’s CS medal from UP. we didn’t even get a letter. congrats sa inyo ni BA!

  39. mina

Sexy Chick: pangarap ko ang magka anak. . .
PICHAY: pangarap ko tuparin ang pangarap mo. . .

:hehe:

  41. Vera

Aw, sorry to hear that you missed it! Wow, such an important thing and it gets sent late. Sucks. Nice to have a get-together with close ones :). Yum, the food sure sounds delicious ahah. Lucky you :P. I’ve voted for you :D! I thought only people from Filipino can enter. Too bad for me :T! Interesting, shall read the Wiki!

  42. myepinoy

Who else doesn’t make mistakes or stupid decisions? Until you reach that age that you do not know who you are, that is the time you won’t mind making mistakes. lol

As for you, at least you have a choice (to make mistake???). For the rest, they have to live without any option at all.

  43. Sidney

I did my duty as blogger. I voted.
I don’t know if they accept non Filipino voters.

Good luck! Wish you all the best for the awards night! Do you have your speech ready?

  44. joyce

    ugh. the rumors are true.

  45. Jun ng ZeroGravity Wuhoooo!

ngayon lang uli ako naka-visit  kainis, too busy with the office works. anak ng pating nanjan ka lang pala sa baguio. nanjan pa ba sa burnham park yung baklang fortune teller? ang galeng-galeng mo naman. sana pagka-graduate mo wala kang makitang trabaho.

  46. Rach

Congratulations for receiving a noteworthy recognition. It’s sad that the letter was late. I hate it when that happens. My mail is often late too. In worse cases, some get lost for good.

Glad you had a wonderful time with your cousins.

    Thanks for visiting earlier.

  47. Shari

Sexy Mom: Yay! Please congratulate BA for me. ;)

Mina: It’s okay, no harm done. :) Anyway haha! Nice one! Natawa ako sa joke lololol! My cousins and I are close because we practically grew up together. :D

Vera: Hehe, I’m actually thankful we missed it. I wouldn’t want it to be a big news. ;)

Myepinoy: You’re right. I should have thought of that. *sighs* It’s just that the thought of going to UP hadn’t even entered my mind. I vowed never to go there. Haaay.

Sidney: Thanks for the luck! Haha, I don’t think I’ll be needing the acceptance speech, lol.

Joyce: Really? How d’yah know po? Bilis, I want to know all the juicy details, haha!

Kuya Jun: Asus. Anong office work? Ang paghahanap ng isasagot mo kay anak? Haha! Kuya, wala po ako sa Baguio. Last year pa po yun. :p At ang sama moooo!!! Nyahaha! Langya, tama ba yun?! Haha!

Ate Rach: Thanks so much. Philippine postal services are kinda crappy, I’d say.

  48. Alternati

Congratulations on the grades! Ironically, Too bad bout the scholarship :shake; you should totally sue the post office!!!

I didn’t know you spent some of your college life here in my dear City? Oh well. Que sera sera on ruing the decision to transfer. :)

I love my cousins (the ones I’m close to) too!

Mmmmm… halo halo! I want one! Extra ube on top puh-lease!

  49. L.A

Haha kawawa naman si mother! Better luck next time maybe you’ll get the letter earlier. Yeah yeah pichay!! Ibaon sa ilalim ng senado :boogie:

  50. tiffany

Nyahaha a month ago?

Sayang yun!

  51. Kathy

Hey Shari! Thanks for commenting on my site

LOL. How evil is that? Geez, a month late? Bad, bad!
Wow, that seemed like fun! I’m happy that you enjoyed your get-together!

Ooh, I’m voting for you! Your blog is really nice :) Plus, what is this whole blog awards thing? Is it online…or do you actually attend their event or whatever? Sounds awesome!

  52. Shari

Alternati: Should I really? :D Yeah yeah, that’s why I feel nostalgic reading your blogs lol.

    LA: True! :p

Tiffany: As in wala karamihan ng sulat dito sa amin. How sad. At salamat. ;)

Kathy: Thanks. Bad bad bad. As if I can really do anything about it, eh? Hehe. And oh, yeah there is an awarding ceremony, yes. ;)

  53. helga

Chuchubells has an angle that makes him look like Prospero Pichay.

Dude, when I checked this entry at work 4 hours ago, it only had 20+ comments. WHOA.

  54. keiyt

Hmm. Yay you’re so intelligent! Hmm. So you wont ble to get into UPB? Hmm. I hope you can still go or whatever. :) Ingat.

  55. Raymond

Haha… When I read the first paragraph I was like “Ohh m god.. congratulations. your mum will be so happy” and when I read the second one I was like “Awww….hahahaha” lol…Sucks eh. Blame the postman hehe… Looks like you have fun in the party!! Its nice to bond with cousins. I seldom do that though. I am just a loner when it comes to family gathering haha..

  56. Shari

Helga: Oh noes! Chuchubells is cursed! Dude, I do respond to comments, so don’t be surprised. Hehe :boogie:

Keiyt: I’m not really sure. How I wish….

Raymond: Haha gotcha with that, eh?! :p My cousins and I are really close, so we always talk with everyone whenever we have the chance. :)

  57. benj

If there’s justice in this world Shari, either you or Bikoy will win.

You gotta wear a gown for Saturday!!! wahahahahahha

  58. Paddy

Hahah I NEVER use the word ‘lol’ but when I read “I almost LOLed at her face”…. I have to admit it: I LOLed!

Ergh, you’re lucky. most of my paternelle cousins are douchebags.

  59. Rach

Hi again. Just wanted to drop by to thank you for your warm bday greetings. I appreciate it. Take care!

  60. trench

wow. great layout. thanks for stopping by my site. I’ve bookmarked you. Seems you have alot of fans!

  61. fia

pichay’s from surigao right? i heard he’s wealthy even before he ran as representative but i don’t know. some say he’s corrupt. but we’ll never know the truth. :)

  62. Enzo

Congratz on making it as a dean’s lister. :cute: I would have done the same thing to my mom when that happens to me. I would even laugh as loud as a crazy b#tch. Anyway, I love get togethers! I love it whenever I meet again with someone whom I’ve seen since ages. I hope you’ve had fun. And I heard that Pichay’s an extortionist. I’m not sure if its true. If he doesn’t win, I feel pity for him since he spent a lot of money on TV ads.

  63. shane

waaah! ur so, so, so smart!!! I wish I have ur brains… toinkz! hihihi…  congratz!!! hirap nun tests dun di ba… weee… ako rin kaya pagnagcollege ako? ahahaha… asa lng ako ehehehe…

  64. Nan

My mail is often late too! Sometimes there is even a wrong name on my letter! Wait… Maybe… Naa.

Good luck on the Philliewillie awards!

  65. isley

I read about that wikipedia thing in Time mag.. or Newsweek.

  66. Shari

Benj: Hey, what happened to the Bikoy vs Dikoy plus me as a dark horse prediction? :p And trust me, you don’t wanna see me wear a gown. Kadiri ako lololol!

Paddy: I’ve been using lololol a lot, lololol. I don’t really know why, but lololol, it’s just this month I get to lololol frequently. Lololol!

Ate Rach: I’m wishing you a kickin-ass birthday with your family! :)

Trench: Aww, thanks. :D Oh, and what fans? Lololol :p

Fia: That’s probably because he published a smut tabloid. But there’s a world of difference between being wealthy and being filthy rich — the word filthy. :p And really, I wonder what happened to the pork barrel.

Enzo: Thanks, thanks. :) Hay naku, if Pichay doesn’t win, I’d treat you to a Jollibee value meal. Let’s celebrate! Lololol! :p

Shane: Kaya mo yan. Ngek. Sus. Hehe ;)

Nan: I even received a letter once from an international company, and the original country to where it was sent is Yugoslavia! Haha!

Isley: Yes. But then, that’s the pitfall of having a free edit thingamajig. ;) Thanks nga po pala hehe.

  67. Neil

    Long timeeeey!

You know wat? I’m supposed to receive the Presidential Scholarship (yeah right, bragging about it… whoosh) last week. Too bad, I’m lazied and all. Hahaha. My professors are way too disappointed.

I passed UPCAT. Fine Arts. But I can’t afford it. And my parents don’t like the idea. They’re afraid i might become some activist. They’re wrong. It’s Cavite State University.

Sowee… i’ve voted Utakg*go already. Pagbigyan mo na ang bata…. hehehe. I know a lot will vote for you so, eh ano ngayon kung mag-vote ako…

  68. chase

Wow that is quite nice! But gosh I hate late letters as well. At least here you dont need to worry about late letters since no matter where you are there are postmen and women everywhere.

Btw, I also skip ceremonies and stuff and go straight to the reception
