The Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs in 2007

Janette Toral always comes up with new and interesting ways of getting different bloggers to blog about one thing. She has now spearheaded a writing project to identify and collate new and emerging influential blogs this year. Qualified blogs are those that started from August 2006 to the present.

I thought I would find it hard to choose among the ass-kicking blogs I know, but I didn’t even break a sweat. Most of the blogs I regularly visit or read on my feed reader are not qualified anyway, all because of the required inaugural date. The 50 or so entries have been trimmed down to a little short of 15. And I hate it. I can’t put them all on my list.

The only thing bothering me (problem?) about this is that most probably, at least 75% of the participating entries — including mine — are submitted by Filipinos. And most probably, these Filipinos — like me — nominate blogs made by fellow Filipinos. Since the sudden boom of the Philippine blogosphere — starting with the BlogParteeh, to the Philippine Blog Awards, to the Philippine Blogging Summit, to maybe even last month’s SEB, to other forthcoming bloggers events that will be organized — Pinoy bloggers have been more solidly consolidated and are now making a statement globally.

But the thing is, on one hand, while people from other countries are aware of the presence of more and more Filipino bloggers, they’re not aware of the individual blogs that are making an impact. On the other hand, Filipino bloggers most likely will vote for Filipino blogs they’ve established solid connection with. Arrrgh, I can’t quite get my point through clearly, but the bottomline is that I’m willing to bet that unless more non-Filipino bloggers participate in this project, the final list of the emerging influential blogs will be dominated by Filipinos. And as far as I know, the list isn’t a Top 10 Emerging Influential Filipino Blogs in 2007.

But anyway, here’s my own incomplete list of blogs which I think have the oomphf factor this year. My own biased opinion, of course, because I love the blogs. They’re listed in no particular order, just in number. :)

  1. The D Spot

    Maybe it’s because she comes from a family of bloggers, or maybe it’s because she’s a mother of 5 bloggers, or maybe it’s simply because she’s a Racoma, but Tita Dine is sure making her way up there like the sexy mom that she is. Her blog entries range from parenting and family, to food, to health, to other sheer utter brilliance that she likes to write and I love to read. And I also want her Sexy MacBook, blah.

  2. Make Money Online with a 13-Year Old

    Need one wonder why the site of this certain online entity who claims to be only 13 years old, who helps the n00bs make money online, who goes by the name of Carl Ocab, is in the list? No? Yeah, I didn’t think so too. I mean, Eddie Guerrero has taught him some things about blogging? Geesh. Cool.

  3. An Apple a Day

    Being the Google Country Consultant for the Philippines, Aileen Apolo encourages her readers to bite an apple a day by reading her entries. I can particularly relate to her current blog entry; I get too attached to pets and mourn for a long time as well. She’s so lucky she’s having a soon-to-be new puppy.

  4. Unsent

    Truly one of the wittiest and most humorous blogs in the Philippine blogosphere today. The blog is maintained by the man with too many J’s— JJ Junio. His Feeling Close: Senatorial Election series really did me in. That reminds me, I have to return his USB soon. :D

  5. It’s not only fruity, it’s oaty! » fruityoaty

    Simply one of my most favorite blogs since…forever. Massa P. is the bomb, I tell you all! The funniest thing about reading her blog is that I really have no idea what she’s talking about. ‘Nuff said, haha. ;)

  6. FIGHTING GRAVITY

    Ann’s been my online buddy for more than 3 years already, if I’m not mistaken. And I honestly think that she has begun her best blogging year lately when she started Fighting Gravity. So when the time comes that this cum laude, double major medical student gets famous, I’d sure be proud to say that I know her — personally! :D

  7. The Dork Factor

    If you want transparency, humor, sex, and read a full-blown account of sexcapades written by a man barely in his 20’s, this is the place. It seems like Jhed has engaged a lot of readers with his sexperience stories. His new revelation has even succeeded in surprising the daylights out of me.

  8. Cokskiblue

    I can only watch his videos whenever I’m in internet cafes, but they’re still fun. Besides, I’m biased. He’s a schoolmate. Haha.

  9. Utakgago.com | This is not pink, this is SALMON!

    Like Jeff, I also wonder where this KID get the inspiration to write his entries, and write them deeply. My gaaaad, I die, I live, and I die again, because of how articulate he is when it comes to writing.

  10. Kubiertos

    I hate blogs that make me hungry. Really. And I really hate the pictures that come with the entries, especially the one with Ganns looking like a big evil marshmallow man during our KKBEB lunch at Chef D’ Angelo at Greenbelt (yeah, I got lost on the way, blah). Kudos to Kuya Chris and Ate Apples!

Note that I can and might change something in the list. I can choose to delete one blog to add another one until July 28. You still have about 2 months to bribe me. ;)

    Ayos! Mga panibagong blogs na bibisitahin, babasahin, at sasambahin.

    Wala akong gaanong alam tungkol sa “Pinoy Blogosphere” and everything in the package.

    Let’s keep the Blogosphere rocking!~

    (Mula sa may-ari ng isang blog na nilalangaw)

  2. Felisa

    Cool! I’m gonna check them ALL out! :mrgreen:

    Im really biting my lip on including Kevin on my list. Isn’t he too big for this? He IS THE UtakGago. This time last year, his old blog was getting 50-70 comments per post!

  9. sexy mom

  14. Shari

    @Lei - Daya. Miss ko na Baguio lalo. :(

    @Jhed - Well, you are. Haha.

    @Benj - Yeah. Vindication. Geesh. The kid’s a genius. But then, doesn’t that tell you something about how influential he is? :D

    @Sexy Mom - No problem. Always. ;)

    @Keekee - A fan, a fan! Hehe!

    @utakGAGO - Hah, I’ll remember that. :p

    @Poli - Thanks :)

  15. benj

    The song LUCKY (by Britney Spears) reminds me of UtakGago. Just change the she to he. haha

  16. benj

    vindication was his wordpress blog - and guess who told him to move *ehem*. Prior to that he had a very artsy UtakGago blogspot blog that was literally an art piece in itself. It had microscopic font size and the posts were about 2000 words long (and he posts everyday). Hahaha. Genius.

  17. Aileen Apolo

    Oooohhh!!! I’m so kilig! Hihihihi.

    Many thanks from the bottom of my neurotic heart. I hope you do pick up something in my blog, but nah, it’s just mostly ranting! Toodledee!!! :p

  18. JJ

    Wow. I’m nominated? Hahaha!

    Many thanks for the vote. I thought raduerial was crazy enough to nominate me. Turns out you’re pretty crazy too :grin: peace!

  19. heneroso

    Ano ang gusto mo katawan ko!? Kahit ano kaya ko ibigay ilagay mo lang ako diyan sa listahan mo! Bilhin ko na boto mo ano!? bwahahha sayang kakaanniv ko lang… huhu

  20. Shari

    @Benj - WTH, why?! Haha! Anyway, yeah, I visited his sites before. That kid.

    @Aileen - It’s a delight to read. :)

    @JJ - Weh.

    @Heneroso - Haha, ayoko. Sige, damay na kita wag mo lang ipilit ang katawan mo sa akin! Hahaha!

  21. Ann

    Salamat sa mention. But since you’re already famous, I’m the one who’s proud to say that I know you. ;)

  22. ApplesH

    @Shari
    Thanks for including us in your list! :)

  23. fruityoaty

    Hi Shari! Sorry, I’m so late in commenting and saying THANK YOU for putting me on YOUR LIST! :shock: I was on another blog world hiatus. If I go on another one, I probably won’t have a blog, soon… hahaha! I’m just loving my offline life more… ya know?

    Whoah, I am so deeply honoured… from YOU… YOU! Almost speechless. Almost.

    And yeah, LOL, half the time I don’t know what I’m talking about either, hahaha! Someone once compared reading my blog to watching an episode of Lost… except only 1/1000 as enjoyable and clever as Lost, lol. Eh, I’m working on being more transparent… but it’s sorta taking the wicked fun out of my blogging. You know, I’d just rather be me… if that’s M!ssundaztood, I’m fine with that. My friend said that it was some sort of sick scheme to weed people out (those that worked hard to understand me and returned — the ones worth getting to know). Sorta like people who go past the blog layout razzle dazzle and dig deep into the entries. He could be right.

    I so totally agree with your selections of Fighting Gravity (Ann), Unsent (JJ) and The Dork Factor (Jhed). Great sites. I heart Ann. She’s cool in that “I think too much” kinda way.

    I’ve never heard of Kubiertos before… Filipino FOOD blog. I’ll be sure to check that one out!

    I’m so glad blog hopping from Pinoy Stupid led me to your Manny post.

  24. benj

    Where’s HAPPY SLIP?!?!?! This is Madness!!! hahaha

    Ok, may hindi pala ako napansin nung una. Wow. You voted for that blog?! *shocked* haha
