WordCamp Philippines 2008…Finally!
It’s finally happening. After long years of being a WordPress user-slash-buff and exchanging WordPress gibberish with Aja during our late-night geeky chats years ago, discussing articles from the Codex (I knoooowwww…how…geeky…hehe…Aja is my WordPress “mentor,” so all hail Aja and his plugins! heh), and basically being our usual dorky selves, WordCamp Philippines 2008 has “arrived,” thanks to the people behind Mindanao Bloggers. Of course I’m not about to waste this chance. It’s a go!
Topics like Video and Mobile Blogging and Blog Monetization make me wonder why Web Standards and Web Accessibility are not in the list of “considered topics.” They’re not even exactly as “advanced” as vlogging and moblogging are, since they basically deal with correctly structuring HTML documents in the first place. They’re not even hard to do; in fact, documents that are standards and accessibility compliant are hundred times easier to build and manage than documents with randomly placed and unclosed tags. The WordPress Default theme itself takes web standards and web accessibility into account.
Maybe someday PWAG or, errrr, the forever-hiatus Web Standards Philippines group, will be able to present their “arguments” before people who won’t get bored with stuff like those and become “responsible netizens,” whatever that means.
Anyway, since I’m required to post the list of sponsors without rel="nofollow", here it is in all its listed glory.

Thanks for blogging about this!
I already told them to consider the topics.
Where is the Web Standards Philippines group? I agree that creating webpages that follow web standards should be simple enough, but maybe being disciplined enough to do it every day like a good habit is an “advanced” skill.
@Ria, thanks! And geez, blogging about it is NO BIG.
@Ia, haha, somewhere out there, beneath the pale moonlight?
I should think that being disciplined enough to write sponsored posts is as easy as being disciplined enough to write the correct markup for them. But then, yeah, there isn’t any tangible incentive on doing “valid” and accessible pages. Heh.
Incentives? Easier to maintain code! Better SEO standings! Faster loading pages! Ehehehe.
Perhaps they could include it alongside “Designing WP Themes” because the topic “Developing WP Plugins” is combined with “Best Practices in PHP Coding”.
Saka baka gusto ninyong mag-organize ng meetup sa WordCamp Philippines ng Web standards Philippines group?
True, and that’s what I’ve been telling some people. Still, the topics are too “technical” for them. Which is kinda confusing, since it’s all HTML anyway.
Great idea. Perhaps. Let’s here it from the organizers muna, maybe the topics will indeed be included. Sana.
Imma talk with Aja ’bout a meet-up (crosses fingers). Gusto ko nga rin ng ganun sana.
Sounds like an awesome event
Hmm. Don’t you guys think it’s time we made progress with the Web Standards Philippines group? I keep logging in our basecamp. It looks lonely.
Kita-kits sa WordCamp Philippines.
@Ai, join us?
@Lexie, uh, yeah. *hangs head* Meeting up with everyone will be a huge progress though, don’t you think? Mebbe we can talk ’bout how to step forward some more, heh.
@Jhay, more like kitakits on Saturday

Yay! I could finally load your site. (I wonder why sometimes I couldn’t.)
I agree with ia about best practices. Dapat kasama rin yun sa Designing WP Themes. Napakalenient kasi ng browsers ngayon, hopefully wala nang quirks mode sa mga susunod na taon, kasabay na sana ng paglabas ng IE8. That would give incentives to produce valid and semantic markup.
Confirmed na rin nga pala ako Shari. Pray for me na lang na wala akong important matter sa class sa date na yun.
[...] topics. I was ecstatic when I saw that it was to be discussed by Regnard Raquedan, especially after I hinted that said topic should be considered. WordPress in itself adheres to Web Standards, and I couldn’t help being passionate about web [...]
