Y4IT 2008
First off….
I attended the first ever Ubuntu Love Day Manila a couple of days ago. It was an interesting event, to say the least. I “live-blogged” in my Multiply account, only because I had nothing better to do. I also mooched some books (and got mooched in the process), answered a couple of emails, and Plurked nonsensical stuff in between. Multi-tasking, anyone?
Anyway, here are the photos I took, some other photos, slides of the presenters, and video clips of the presenters.
Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology
I’ve never been to a Y4IT event before, mainly because of reasons that are financial in nature. Registration fees have always been a big pain in the arse, and this years’ isn’t any different. But this time around, I’m planning to take advantage of the chance to attend one of the biggest (if not the biggest) IT events of 2008, the 6th Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology. Some of the topics include Blogging, e-Learning, Semantic Web, Social Networking, Online Tutorials, and e-Mentoring. These topics will be covered within the 4 days of the event, by different notable people who are learned in their respective fields of interest. Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Ed Angara, and Atty. Koko Pimentel III will be keynote speakers on three different days (I’m sure it’s not going to be political…or is it?), and I think they’re worth checking out.
In relation to the Ubuntu Love Day, child genius Mikaela Fudolig explains, “Why I Use Windows: The Main Problem with Linux from the Consumer’s Point of View.” It should be an interesting talk. I’m beginning to imagine what points she’d stress. And hey, why not Mac?
Bloggers J. Angelo Racoma, Ria Jose, Juned Sonido, Jayvee Fernandez, Regnard Raquedan, Janette Toral, Noel Feria, and a few more others are also going to participate and discuss different topics like IT Entrepreneurship, WordPress, Blogging, and hordes of other compelling topics.
What I’m really looking forward to are English and Philippine Social Media, Ruby on Rails, IT Forensics, and Legal Aspects of e-Publishing. My eyes glint every time there’s “social” in a topic. I’ve been studying Ruby on Rails for the past year (well, I’m trying). IT Forensics just sounds too cool to pass up on. And I’ve always been interested in the legal aspects of anything. Go figure.
The Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology or Y4IT is an annual IT event hosted by UP Information Technology Training Center and UP System Information Technology Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with PSITE, CSP, and the UP ITTC Student Volunteer Corps. Y4IT 2008 will be held on September 2-5 at the UP University Theater, UP Film Institute, and UP Bahay ng Alumni. For more information, visit the website at y4it.up.edu.ph or ittc.up.edu.ph.
I also planned to attend this year, but school has forced me back to the drawing board.
Hope to see you there!
Oh this sounds interesting. I have never been to any sort of convention accept a Junior Beta convention with my middle school (which seems like ages ago because, I just got out of High school..gosh im gettin old..) Anyhow, I hope you have fun
Im sure it’ll be very informational, and maybe you can make new friends a long the way. (Unless youre E-popular already and people know you lol..Im not). OH! book mooching; I like the sound of it. I’ve been an avid reader of the Twilight saga for the past 3 days. I just read the first one Monday and I’m already starting on the 3rd one now! I know the topic of it is pretty elementary but Stephenie Meyer seems to pull it off and hold my interest (wich wanders around quite a bit with boring novels). Check it out if you get a chance! She also has an ‘adult’ novel called ‘The Host’. I can’t wait to pick that one up either. Mkay, Im starting to sound like an advertisement so I’ll hush now
have fun at your event!
Hi, Ate :] Dami-dami mo naman activities :] galeng
ate shari..uhm, random question lang..have you ever lived in Britain before? Kasi I’ve never really come across anyone who uses the British word for ‘ass’ before na Filipino. :]
I’ve been studying Ruby for the past year… for testing software purposes (fiding defects). Much cheaper to build my own scripts than to buy expensive commercial software testing tools (which have their own defects). Testing buggy software… WITH buggy software is like the blind leading the blind. I haven’t tried to learn Ruby on Rails yet.
I’ve never been to any IT convention before. They don’t have it here. Gah. And I want to learn Ruby on Rails. My host offers it but I don’t even know how it works. *sulks in self pity*
Oooh and I haven’t visited this site for a long time so let me just squeal this out. I LOVE YOUR ICON.
You really love Botan don’t you?
I already attend this IT event last year. this was the second time around, and lots of interesting topics and take note that the speakers are so wow… I really learned a lot in this seminar. I really like going out with my colleagues, we enjoy/bond together and appreciate what we learned and apply it for the near future…
