Pinoy Forum Norms
Sometimes I wonder why people opt for the famous ones. Even forums have their own norms I can’t seem to break from. Though I am different and I’ve accepted the fact that I can never blend in with the “mainstream crowd,” it still gets to me sometimes. I’m still affected. It feels horrible to be surrounded with a bunch of ass-kissing twerps.
That “You won’t get out of place here” advertisement? Plain bullshit. Of course everybody has their own favorites. You won’t even go to a thread started by a certain someone because you don’t know him or her. Then if someone famous starts a nonsensical thread, you’re gonna respond with an equally nonsensical comments.
And then there’s also this “Obey the rules! My rules!” crap in forums. Those who bitch about someone ripping off something from their site bitch here. Hello? Have you seen the content of your website? Do you sell layouts? Now, that’s a very interesting thought. How can I obey your rules if you’re the one who’s breaking other people’s rules? Do you know most people who make brushes don’t allow even a sprinkle of their works in something which you would sell? Look at Stella; she only sells something that she has made 100%. As in no works of others have made a special appearance on things she makes.
Oh, yes, that’s news. Your layout isn’t 100% made by you. Chris and whoever of WordPress probably did the coding1, brushes made by others, images you’ve taken from somewhere you claim as you’ve “forgotten.” So why in hell would everything be copyrighted to you?
The only forums I’ve ever loved are Peyups (forum of UP students) and Scientian.com (now Xientian.net, forum of QueSci). Maybe because I can relate with the people there better. The threads are a healthy balance of sensible and crap. People are flexible enough to engage in intelligent discussions, but also cool enough to actually have fun. No preconceived notions, no judgments. As long as you write something, someone’s bound to read it even if s/he doesn’t know you. Even comment on it.
Experiencing the discrimination I don’t think I deserve is eating me. Really. Am I that different? Just because I don’t put up pink and cute layouts, or sell WordPress themes using noncommercial materials, or blog using my language in a shameful way, is enough for people to ignore what I have to say? Maybe I should just disappear, make my own forum, and have a conversation with myself. Which, by the way, is not a bad idea, taking into consideration what happens these days.
You don’t like me? I don’t like you. And the thing is, I’m perfectly fine with that. I’m insensitive and numb to what you think about me. And you, on the other hand, you’re obviously one of those people who care about what the others think of him/her. That’s why you hold on to famous people, so you can get famous too.
I’ve quit one forum I’m particularly, err, dismayed with. *coughs* I don’t think I belong there. So yeah, if you know Pinaytalk, you know what I’m talking about.
