Living in the Shadows
Earth has been plagued by many natural, and also unnatural, problems. The world seems to be nearing its end. Moreover, Mother Nature seeks revenge to those people who abuse her. Is this really the will of God? Or is this just a lot of accidents and tragedies waiting to happen for our lack of respect to the things around us?
The Philippines had been first on the list. It was attacked by one typhoon after another that destroyed many lives and properties. The people were dumbfounded, for Christmas was due soon, and they had nothing left. Wails from children who lost their parents, and of parents who lost their children, could be heard everywhere. So many lives wasted that you could only get teary-eyed while staring at the dead bodies. They had nothing, except maybe hopes in their hearts that they would get through the tough situation they’re in, and also for the tragedies to never happen again.
Shortly after Christmas, another big news struck the globe. Countries in Asia had experienced a tremendous intensity of successive earthquakes. Similarly, the news of the killer tsunamis that hit many of the Asian countries came also as a big shock. Hundreds of thousands of people, and billions of dollars worth of properties were all washed away. It had been one of the biggest news of the century. Questions from almost all the people could be heard. Are they ever going to win this battle against nature?
The tragedies hadn’t been good, however, as a result of these unfortunate accidents triggered by the natural forces, the world came together. A lot of countries nearby that were little or not affected by the tsunamis offered to help. Soon, countries beyond Asia were donating goods and necessities. People from the far side of the world came to the affected countries and volunteered their time to lend a hand. People from different races, from all walks of life, came together in unity with only one purpose: to help the people and their country restore the faith and hope the victims lost along with their properties and the lives of the people they love.
Now and then, the death tolls increased, but with the help of the volunteers who act as heroes for the Asians, let’s just hope and pray that they would be back on track in no time at all. After all, we live in the same world, and in order for us to stop living in the shadows, we have to help one another.
